In January of 2011 the officers of the Alburtis Fire Dept began discussing consolidation of apparatus in the station. The officers felt it would be a cost saving measure by reducing maintenance and insurance costs. Due to limited manpower at certain times of the day, the officers wanted to purchase a unit that would be multifunctional. The officers felt the best way to do this would to be to consolidate Engine 111, a 1976 Mack CF and Rescue 141, a 2006 International and purchase a Rescue/Engine. Members of the department began searching online for a truck that would best suit or needs. Around the same time the Alburtis Fire Dept placed their Rescue truck for sale. Members looked on line at 100’s of different trucks. Members also looked at several different trucks in person. Members made several trips throughout the area, and several departments brought trucks to Alburtis. In July of 2011 the Alburtis Fire Dept was given info that the Limerick Fire Dept in Montgomery County would be selling their rescue/engine. The crew made a trip to Limerick to inspect the truck and felt this truck would fit their needs. The truck was very well maintained, had low mileage and had the compartment space the crew was looking for. In September 2011 the Alburtis Fire Dept submitted an offer to Limerick Fire Dept for the rescue/engine and they accepted. Limerick is expecting delivery of a new rescue truck in March of 2012. Neither department wanted to be without a rescue truck for an extended period of time so the Limerick Fire Dept and Alburtis Fire dept decided to meet in the middle on a delivery date, so Alburtis Fire dept would be without a truck for about 2 months and Limerick would be without a rescue for 2 months Alburtis Fire Dept will take delivery of the truck in January of 2012. Once delivered, the truck will go for paint and lettering. We hope to have the truck in service by February of 2012.
In May of 2011 French River Fire Dept in Canada began to show an interest in our Rescue Truck. They were finally able to come down in September of 2011 to view the truck. Later in September they put an offer in for the truck and the members of the department accepted the offer. Payment for the truck was received in early November and the truck was picked up by French River Canada Fire Dept on November 22nd, 2011.
At this time E111 will be placed out of service once the rescue/engine arrives and will be kept by the Alburtis Fire Dept as an antique apparatus. Squad 151 was also placed out of service due to mechanical reasons and will not be replaced at this time.
